Based on Singapore Bird project, the Mangrove Pitta is an uncommon bird and a near threatened species (BirdLife International 2016).

My last time meeting the mangrove pitta was on 29th May 2021 and hopping to meet it again.
Unfortunately, up till now (Jun 2022)  it has yet to appear at Pasir Ris Mangrove Boardwalk in 2022 .

My 2 episodes of mangrove pitta sighting in Pasir Ris Mangrove Boardwalk.
1st - Nov to Dec 2020
2nd - Mar to May 2021

2021 May 29 @ PRP Mangrove Boardwalk, exit to Kitchen Garden.
This was the last time we sighted this beauty.
It was perched up on a tree, at the junction of mangrove boardwalk, entrance from Kitchen Garden. It was calling loudly to its partner. At that moment, birders were not sure if there is a couple or just 1 mangrove pitta there.
On this day, another pitta appeared on the mangrove ground a section away. For less than 10 seconds, both were calling out to each other. This pitta flew towards its partner and both went deep into the mangrove.

Usually on the ground, today we spotted it on top of the tree.
Now we are able to view its feather colours underneath.
Location - Boardwalk towards car park C.

The first time spotting it for the 2nd episode.
It was resting on top of a branch. Not sure if it is the same bird with the one we spotted in our 1st episode.

Another day, again about 2 to 3pm after lunch. Look like this bird always look for food around this time. We were lucky to spot it with a crab, trying to crack the crab by smashing it on the ground and eat it.

2020 Nov 21st @ PRP Mangrove Boardwalk, near Sungei Tampines.
The very first time I met this beauty. It was spotted by a birder beginning of Nov 2020 and created a big crowd waiting for it every day. As usual, I did my nature walk hoping to meet it but did not deliberately wait for it. It was around 2pm when we walked the mangrove boardwalk intending to walk towards car park D. There were no birders waiting for this bird anymore as most birders has already spotted it and it was already afternoon. Just happened to notice something moving at the ground area when we realised we have spotted a lifer. Then birders spotted us and slowly the crowd formed for this star.
